The Islamabad Biennale Organization (IBO) is proud to announce the inclusion of Raza Ahmad Rumi to its Board of Advisors. A celebrated writer, public policy specialist, and media leader, Mr. Rumi brings a unique interdisciplinary lens to the Biennale—bridging the realms of culture, governance, and public discourse. His commitment to independent thought, inclusive narratives, and civic engagement aligns with IBO’s vision of fostering critical dialogue through contemporary art.
Mr. Rumi is currently the Director of the Park Center for Independent Media at Ithaca College, and also lectures at the Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy. In Pakistan, he serves as the Editor of The Friday Times and the founder of Naya Daur Media, two platforms that champion progressive journalism, democratic values, and nuanced perspectives on socio-political issues. His work consistently centers voices on the margins while encouraging deeper engagement with Pakistan’s cultural and political landscapes.
Throughout his career, Raza Rumi has been an influential commentator on governance, policy reform, human rights, and South Asian cultural identities. His writings have been featured in leading national and international publications, and he has played an active role in shaping public debate on civic freedoms, minority rights, and regional peace-building.
As an editor and educator, he has nurtured new generations of thinkers and storytellers, while also advocating for the arts and culture as critical components of democratic life. His intellectual contributions—spanning academia, media, and policy—reflect a holistic understanding of how culture can shape citizenship and collective memory.
His inclusion in the Advisory Board brings to IBO not only international reach but also a deep commitment to inclusivity, reflection, and critical thought. His expertise will be central to shaping the Biennale’s public engagement strategy, academic programming, and media discourse, ensuring that the platform is intellectually rigorous and socially responsive.
“We are honoured to welcome Raza Rumi to our Board of Advisors,” said Talal Faisal Ismaili, Head of the Curatorial Team at the Islamabad Biennale. “His extensive work at the intersections of policy, media, and cultural thought offers IBO a powerful compass for shaping meaningful and inclusive artistic narratives.”
As a member of the Board, Mr. Rumi will advise on intellectual frameworks, media partnerships, and critical programming—ensuring the Biennale not only showcases art, but also sparks dialogue, reflection, and change. His voice will be integral in helping IBO become a catalyst for cultural discourse that resonates both locally and globally.
